I know it been a while since you posted this one but i have a 84 300d with a rough idle problem with a boat load of blueish smoke for about 90 seconds or so. I put in new plugs this summer so I was worried about my car doing even worse in the winter. I did a search of the forum and found out that the relay sends voltage to the plugs after the glow light go out of the car for up to 30 second. Now what I do is do a ten count when I plug it and it starts right up without that enormous volume of smoke and stalling. I am very happy about this as I was concerned about the cold chicago winters. I may even hook up a indicator light to the cabin to tell me when the glow plugs are getting power.
