I'll throw out a point.


I remember reading that SAE did a oil survey in 2001 and 75% of the motor oils tested failed to meet the SAE specs on the bottle. So, I would just choose ANY motor oil. I agree that many are made under liscense. They take some base oil and add X amount of additives and bottle. I'd say this probably is not the case with companies which are refiners or in the synthetic world make base stock: Agip, Luk, Chevron, Mobil come to mind.

We are talking Benz's still right? Each manufacture pays for testing of oils to prove they meet MB's specs before they are included in the approved oil list mercedes maintains. I'd pick an oil that meets the requirements.
