According to a report by the Seton Hall Law School:

There are now about 490 prisoners at Gitmo, and "55 percent of the detainees are not determined to have committed any hostile acts against the United States or coalition allies."

"Only 8 percent of the detainees were characterized as Al Qaeda fighters. Of the remaining detainees, 40 percent have no definitive connection with Al Qaeda at all and 18 percent have no definitive affiliation with either Al Qaeda or the Taliban."

"Only 5 percent of the detainees were captured by United States forces. [A total of] 86 percent of the detainees were arrested by either Pakistan or the Northern Alliance and turned over to United States custody. This 86 percent of the detainees captured by Pakistan or the Northern Alliance were turned over to the United States at a time at which the United States offered large bounties for capture of suspected enemies."

From: Gitmo

From other radio reports on the Seton Hall study, which I couldn't find right away, many of those turned over to the U.S. were sold for, I believe around $5,000 US which is a fortune in Afg/Pak. Advertisements painting glowing pictures of just what that money could do for one were sprinkled about. What a deal huh? Get rid of some a$$ you never liked or who was *****ing about you stealling this or that and get paid major cash at the same time.

Taxes are way down and the PR of China is most grateful for the leverage our borrowing has given them. Fighting a disastorous war all on borrowed money. Brilliant.

Plenty of demos get it on gun control, H. Dean, coincidentally party head, being chief among them.

Failure to see the good accomplishments of one's opponents is a great indicator of fanaticism.
