You're right, twisting won't work, and don't keep twisting and pulling, you'll break something. They make a spark plug wire removal too just for Mercedes for about $30 or so and others make a generic one without the $20 Mercedes logo on that would probably work.

You bring up the only shortcoming in the otherwise excellent Mercedes maintance schedule, the spark plug wires should be regularly removed IMHO.
