I just had my 16" AMG rims painted (Pearl Black, color no. 199) and polished by Wheel Techniques in Campbell, CA (I also live in Campbell). They did an excellent job. The polished lip really offsets the black center face. WT is also an approved installer for the Tirerack. I purchased tires from the Tirerack and they drop-shipped them to WT. Cost-wise, I paid $110/rim for paint and polish, $20/rim to remove old/install new tires, and a $35 lot charge for custom color paint (all told $555). As for the polished lip's longevity, I don't have any history yet, but I plan on taking great care of them. We don't have salted roads in my area, so I won't have any data on that (plus I won't drive my car in the rain -- it's a "fair-weather" vehicle). Bottom line: I think Wheel Techniques does excellent work and would recommend them to my "forum buddies". Talk to Jeff, he's the owner.
