It may be cheaper than risking the hassle and expense of a roadside breakdown.

I bought my SDL from a private owner in Texas 2 years ago and he was most helpful taking the car to a specialist of my choice. I paid the owner a deposit that was refundable based upon the results of the inspection. I sprang for the inspection and decided to purchase the car. I also had the car serviced (it was due) and had a few repairs done for peace of mind. I FedExed a box to the owner containing my tool kit and other stuff I might need on the drive home - much easier than persauding an airline to let you carry it with you. I then flew down, paid the balance owing and drove the 1640 miles home (in 23.5 hours) with no problems or issues whatsoever (apart from the $200 speeding ticket outside Dallas !!).

Good luck.
Ouch!
I know a Texan, lives in Dallas. He drove up to Seattle on business and back, he doesn't drive a MB he has a Cadillac STS but the story is he drives fast all the time and is like a hawk looking for police and radar traps. Got all the way back to within 60 miles of home and got the only speeding ticket on the trip! That must tell you something!
Seriously though the SDL is a great car, I believe you got a keeper!
PPI is highly advisable when buying anything with a 603 engine and you really need an Indy or even a dealer who knows that engine to do an inspection. The rest is pretty normal stuff.
