those sending units are notorious for failing and making the gas gauge read incorrectly. Also, the small "o" rings can fail and effect the syphon of fuel from side to side. A new set of fuel level sensors (actually only one level sensor/pressure sensnor, and one syphon) should get you rolling again. It's less than a two hour job to do.
