AMG was set up in 1967. It got its start it motorsports, but started producing modified MBs for the public. They later on teamed up with MB in the late 80s for the German Touring Car Championships. The two companies then forged an agreement where MB agreed to sell AMG modified vehicles in the MB showrooms. Just recently, MB purchased a controlling stake in AMG.
