I got an 81 300SD for $610 about a month ago. The engine starts but the car doesn't run. I was hoping it was a torque converter problem but it turns out to be a transmission problem. I can get a replacement transmission for around $600 and have a running car (hopefully). But I'm getting lazy about the project.

Basics:

- gold with brown leather
- dent in left front fender extending to both left doors, cosmetic
- shows 292K miles
- engine replaced at 150K, no proof, no reason to doubt
- engine is very clean from the top, a little oily below
- transmission is out of car, can replace or leave it out
- flex plate shredded, have new replacement
- new tires
- registered in CA through 10/01
