You mention you were told by Lordco that their discount oils were re-refined. I didn't see the same about NAPA in your post.
For starters, Canadian environmental laws are likely more stringent than in my country - US. The NAPA oils sold in the US @ NAPA parts stores carry an ILSAC GF-4 rating. I'm not an oil technologist, but would bet a buck, re-refined oil could not carry such a high rating.
Your comment about "too small to have their own fields" is where your credibility in this discussion goes south. As stated earlier, Ashland(Valvoline) makes the NAPA Premium Performance Oil that's sold in the US. Quaker State makes Wal-Marts oil, Exxon makes Honda's, etc.etc.
These are not re-refined oils as their ratings are to high to be such.
Re-refined oils in the US are labelled accordingly. Apparently that's not the case in Canada.
