Although not an official MB shop manual, I do have one for the '68 to '72 220/8 gassers written by Kenneth Ball and published in the UK in 1972. This manual has a very extensive section on the syncromesh transmission with description of the unit, R&R instructions and disassembly and renewal instructions, including drawings. I suspect that this is the exact same tranny used in the 220D/8 of the same years. In the description it says "Automatic transmission fluid (Type A) is used as the lubricant in the gearbox."
