M103s are very robust and long-lived engines, easy to work on too. If you got one that was maintained, it would be as good to you as your diesel was. I'd say look for a 90-92 E-Class or 190E 2.6. They have problems with needing head gaskets and valve jobs though. Which leads me to ask one question- since you admit you haven't maintained your diesel, what makes you think a gas car will be better? You'll have to maintain it too. How much are you going to ask for your poorly maintained car?
