Check the ovpr...although this will not stop the car starting it will present symptoms like yours.
Also...it may need correction of the a/f ratio. The Coolant Temp sensors don't often fail but you can easily check the ohms value cold.
The 6 cylinder often burns the distributor rotor....also, coils get weak.
