They don't call it canbus, they call it CAN, Controller Area Networking. Multiplexing is a generic term for single wire communications betwen multiple control units (it's actually 2 wire for redundancy and other reasons). Other manufacturers can call it different things. I think it falls back on what "language" the systems use. BMW is kind of quick to use the "multiplexing" name, MB very rarely referrs to multiplexing as a generic term, pretty much stick to "CAN" in their references. BMW also uses the name "I-Bus" (information bus)
