I suspect your oil leak comes from one of two possible sources: the oil pressure guage on the instrument panel but more likely the master brake cylinder which is situated above your feet on the firewall. When I bought my 1982 240D three years ago, the master brake cylinder was leaking onto the floor mats and had been for a long time. I had to throw them out after replacing the master brake cylinder. That also might explain why the extra oil/fluid appeared after hard braking.
QUOTE=cavaliers16;1271235]On the way home, I had to slam on the brakes for a crosswalk and when I did I heard a sloshing noise. It sounded like water was dropped on the car. It turned out to be (as I soon found out) a black oily liquid that sloshed all over my shoes, socks, and floormats.
NOT COOL
I took the kick panel off and there was an oil slick on the back of the panel about 6 in tall and still wet. What is this? I suspect the oil for the instrument panel. I really don't mind the shoes, but those 300D mats were perfect
