You're right on the passing power, my SD can rocket itself from anywhere between 60 and 80 up to 112 no problem, its a firm steady acceleration...I'd say from 70 to max speed on my car takes only about 25-30 seconds or so. We opened up our minivan on Tuesday to see what it had....I floored it from 70mph....it dropped to 3rd gear, rev'd to 94mph in 3rd (about 6200rpm at that point

) computer forces it to shift to 4th, then it slowly eeked its way up to 107mph (took about 40 seconds to go from 95-105 I'd say) I let off after holding 107mph for about 3 miles...we were a flyin'!

It was quite stable at that speed, even with cruddy tires. It feels way wimpier than the diesels though, I'd say getting from 70-107 took at least 1.5-2 mins, and the "pull" of acceleration is all but gone at 90ish. Oh well.
Back on topic, I have done what brandon did in my SD (ONE time) I put it in "L" and kept going, I went 10mph over the shift dots for second gear, which puts me around 5300rpm-5400rpm I think. (I hit 49mph in 2nd, it was ROARing) I got paranoid and let off right away though. Sounded like a jet, pretty scary.

Not ever doing that again, I also would like to keep my engine alive a long time yet....in the '83 I hit 91mph in 3rd before, around 5200rpm....then I let it shift.
