Not personal, but it seems a frequently occurring "knee-jerk" reaction to doubt this system.

I postulate it's being confused with the Boge Nivomat system on 700 Volvos and possibly same on Range Rovers, which do require replacement about as often as a normal shock absorber.

Very few second-owner Volvo wagons get new $700 shocks.

Boge Nivomats have mostly disappeared from the scene as well.

The Mercedes system is nothing like the Volvo system.
