Our '83 developed a thud thud thud sound one day when my dad was coming back from a store, looked and looked and looked and tried to figure out what it was, when I just happened to notice a thick clump of tar stuck to his front drivers side tire, it was the evil road sealant stuff, probably a 1.5lb blob of it. Spent a half hour scraping it off with a flat head screwdriver, drove it again, all was perfect again.
