I have a very long, wide flat screwdriver. It's about 2 feet long with a 3/4 inch wide blade. Can you get a couple of those or something similar (maybe even a crowbar) and just "twist" them alongside the shaft while inserted in the groove in order to pry them out? Just a thought...
