I love this car though I know its the poor guys Mercedes and want to get it right. Im just so perplexed at this point!

If the car has not had Mercedes or Zerex G-05 (same stuff) antifreeze in it, you could well have corrosion on the water pump. I chased that on my SDL for a long time until I pulled the pump and found its aluminum housing badly eroded/corroded. Dunno why it would happen there, but it did. Replacing the pump got it cooling again.

Before you go there, you just might want to doublecheck the "new" thermostat by dunking it in a pan of heating water with a thermometer. There are reports of new ones sticking... Make sure it is installed right side up so the air can bleed through it.

When refilling the system, disconnect the upper radiator hose and pour as much coolant into the hose as you can. That helps it bleed out too.
