Bear in mind, this is a first-generation DOHC(discontinued in second-generation cars) MTX model. The car weighs 2,500 pounds, has a decent drag-coefficient(.32) and has exceeded the 39mpg I quoted many times in the last 10 years of driving. On a trip to Ohio-- the car got 425 miles per tank. It routinely travels 150-175 miles on $10.00. On the last day of Hanukkah, it traveled 192 miles on a ten. It might not be 39, but it's damned close-- and with 150,000 miles on unchanged MTX fluid, original axles, wheel bearings I've never serviced and
with no servicable fuel filter-- that's damned impressive.
Would you like me to make a video and youtube it for you? I'll put 5 bux in it and tape the entire drive until it sputters. We'll wager what?

I do not think you are being called a liar. I drove a first gen Neon as a rental car. The thing could not get out of it's own way. It did get good fuel mileage though. The Neon, to me, is about as impressive as the Chevy Corsica. Not the car for me, but I do know other's that are happy with them. Either way, it's not a Ford!
BTW, Diesel jumped 10 cents a gallon overnight. It's at 2.79 cash, 2.85 credit at the local Pilot.
