That is the number one issue with Euro cars, half-assed importation. It really has pissed me off, in 3 Euro cars, I've seen more crap wiring than most can imagine. There are crappy splices, no organization and crummy parts put in for importation. The sad thing is how much work is actually involved to install everything and then how quickly they do the work.
On my brothers 300d, under the dash they added a bell to remind you to put on a seat belt. All it consists of is a wire routed straight to the battery then to a box which times itself out after 10 seconds. The underhood wiring is a joke. You can see the wiring around the firewall and the red one by the battery. Prior to me owning the car all that was draped about and not tucked in at all. I think if I imported a car and payed the RI thousands of dollars and popped the hood and saw that I'd be PISSED! My coupe is the same way. Wires all over and no rhyme or reason. I'd love to know how many registered importers there were in the 80s.
