BTW, how many times have you heard of a cracked head or bent rods in older (pre-85) diesel engines?

I'll take it OT a little bit further. Since you have a gasoline MB in your fleet though not equipped with this engine, would you say that the M116/M117 family of engines built since the early 70's and 722.0/1/2/3 transmissions built since the late 60's started to decline in quality after 1985, though pre 85 units were virtually identical to post 85 units?
