That is usually only true if the MAF also serves as a boost sensor. On the Jeep CRD the MAF only controls the EGR, on a VW it controls both boost and EGR. The way to ind out is with engine off just unplug the MAF and fire it up and drive it, if no boost then, MAF also controls boost. If you notice a power increase or no power loss but a smother idle and smother excellaration then it just controls the EGR. The CEL and code will self clear after about three normal engine startup and shut downs.
