I did try a search and found some good info but I was unable to find any discussion on the exact purpose for the braiding. My thinking was that the braiding is there was to provide "compression" around the fittings so the tube would be snug and to keep the tubing from stretching under pressure.

Yesterday I installed the Viton tubing without the clamps and everything looks fine. The clamps are in the trunk with some tools to install them.. just in case.

This forum had been a great source of info and has saved me hundreds of dollars so far.
