The "special tool" can be an open end wrench, I think 14mm. Slip it over the metal end of the plug wire and pull, or use it as a lever.
By the way, I had "check engine light" miss on number one, tested the resistance on the plug wires, (which were right on the money). By swapping wires I narrowed down the problem to the plug wire which tested good. (That wire, when place on cylinder #2 cured the #1 CEL, but gave a new code for a miss on number 2) Replaced that wire and both miss and CEL went away.
