GPS Units are not affected by clouds; only dense, solid objects, especially metallic ones. Color of the object has zero effect on GPS performance. You probably perceived an issue with clouds if you used your handheld inside the passenger cabin; i.e.: surrounded by sheet metal. Handhelds are not as sensitive as installed units in picking up multiple GPS signals - a requirement for GPS positioning. Although, you are correct in assuming technology has advanced and newer GPS Units are generally better at acquiring and holding numerous GPS signals. Regardless, congrats on the top speed!
