I just got a 1979 w123 300D with 187,000 miles. Sometimes when I accelorate a rattling sound comes from the engine somewhere. When I asked a mechanic if that was the timing chain he said that the timing chains on these usually don't ever wear out. Before I take it in, does anyone know what might cause this noise?
