I doubt it, 225/50/16 is a somewhat tight fit under a W124 rear. The safe bet would be to stick (no pun intended) with 215 section width but get the stickiest stuff you can find. On some tires 215 is wider than other's 215 because of casing profile. (look at the shape of a touring tire and a max performance tire side-by-side...see how blocky the max performance tire is by comparision?) Its probably doable, but you will likely have to roll the fenders or deal with some amount of rubbing. You can call TireRack. (banner at top of page) Their fittment database is very complete but somewhat conservative. The upside of which is if they say a size will fit you know it will fit under ALL conditions. Beyond that I'll let the 190 Guru's chime in. Eckenrod...DOC, I'll defer to you two for the final word.
