any 190E newer than a 1988 has a redesigned console in the center and is is more difficult to do a double din radio. Neither is actually made for a double DIN size radio, however, 1987 and older 190E cars have the panel under the radio that can easily be redesigned to fit a larger size radio. The 1989 and newer cars do have the nicely designed cassette holder frame that can be removed, the cassette holders removed by lifting simple platic clips and redesigned with a new plate to hold the same type gauges that are in the center of the 16v 190E cars. i have done three or four like this, and they turn out very nice. VDO makes very similar gauges to the 16v and a nice oil temp sender that can be threaded directly in to the oil pan drain plug hole and wired up very nicely. I am actually working on a set for a guy right now and we used a lean/rich 02 sensor meter in the center instead of the lap timer so he can monitor the o2 sensor's operation and the fuel ratio of the engine. It is actually useful, unlike the lap timer. No alteration to the console is done, the gauges will fit directly in the space from the cassette tape holders ( for 1989 and newer cars)
