I am sure Enrique at MR MB would liely be the perfect shop to undertake that timing chain maintenance job.

Ask him how much it would cost to pull the valve cover and look to see if it is time. If you decide to have him do it, then ask how much for a chain, guide rail and tensioners.

Everyone said about him that he does the jobs well and for a reasonable price, the labor rates are far below the dealers, and he doesn't do more than necessary.

My WAG is the job could cost from around $600-$1500 and Enrique would probably be on the low side of that figure. You might have to live on Caviar Helper that month, after a job like that, but if it has never been done, it is probably time to bite the bullet and do it.

I don't think it would be a good idea to barter diamonds or jewels for car repairs, frankly. Probably he would want money as most shops would

I wouldn't feel fair bringing my own parts (From Rusty MB parts, German Star etc.) to the shop for a job like that. After all, he is entitled to a fair markup on the parts, as any shop would be.
I was joking bout the diamonds
Even the curbstoner wouldn't take that...

What can I do
I had planned to do the wires
then I broke the TVV
I have the wires already & the plugs
He'll have to understand & make it up somewhere

Still have the thermo vacumn valve to deal with.

He has to take off the wires on that side to get to it

Its under the big bundle of them
He has to take off air cleaner assembly too

So part of it is already apart.

Nothing I can do about it.
so add the mark up somewhere

I can't throw out the wires

I might as well pay him to put them on then someone else.

I can try to get the wires on

I probably could have but don't know what trouble I might run into
or what else will break...

After breaking the TVV

I was gun shy

I half heartedly tried take one boot off the plug

Do you think I should try to finsih what I started

I might be able to do it...

or it might be smart in light of my making more work for Enrique to fix,
admit defeat & crawl over with the wires between my legs
& plead for help...
