Ripoff? Maybe. Everyone gets to reserve judgement.
Before reading Kemp, I purchased the latest edition of her homebrew compendium -- the articles, references, etc. Good stuff. Thought the layout of the brew rig a bit rough; suggested some improvements in plumbing, pumps, stands, controls, etc.
True regarding operation and production costs which may vary by region -- process materials, power, by-product disposal.
Meeting standard is a function of the rig built and the lab created for testing. I found it intriguing that Kemp was heavy on the QA/QC aspect. And meeting standard will be important for DC area winter ops.
Again, the point in the post was really trying to determine if there was enough interest to field a co-op of say, five or six. That would mean approximately 3,000 gallons of product a year, an economy of scale, and fellow enthusiasts working to improve the system.
