forgotten towns of East Germany

While communism was bleak, and so horrible that many East Germans risked life and limb to get out, it is my belief that many of the small villages in Saxony, such as Markneukirchen, and little towns like that, escaped relatively unharmed from bombing, in the war, and their architecture and inhabitants survived the war and the bleak occupation years and many things there haven't changed too much from how they were before the war.

Their existance and culture dates back many hundreds of years.
