Thanks Adenauer,

The first number - off the '72 250 - was a number etched into the side of the transmission, just above the pan on the passenger side. The second number off the '71 came from a plate located just above the drain plug on the pan.

I guess then, they are the same transmission???

How do/did you know that one was reconditioned?
