I'm 80% sure the problem with mine is that the plastic... whatever it is, the plastic rods that pull it back and forward, have snapped in half.

It pops up and comes back down with no trouble.

However, when I push the switch to the "open" position, here's what it does.

1. The motor runs normally.
2. The cable pulls the plastic whatever it is back towards the motor. i can hear it traveling.
3. It travels all the way to the back and then the motor stops just like it always does.

4. In other words, the roof opens completely normally, except the actual roof panel doesn't budge.

5. When you close it, you can hear it close all the way. When the broken pieces meet their front halves, timed perfectly for a "Closed roof", the motor stops again.

I don't know how it's attached in there. But the motor is pulling something back just like it's supposed to, but "Something" is no longer attached to the roof itself.
