Can you elaborate on the soot=light? Every oil analysis I've seen gives this number in a %.

Good dino diesel rated oils can handle 2-4% soot and most synthetic diesel oils can handle 5-8%. Soot is really the limiter in our old indirectly injected diesels.

That's why if you top off and change the filter yearly, you probably never have to change the oil if you use synthetic diesel oil.
