There is no way to get it from the top either.
Im at my ****** wits end with this god forsaken machine.
Anyone have any ideas on what I may try to do before I take a shotgun to it and send it to the local junk yard??????

OK the bottom bolt. The AC line is in the way. If you unbolt the AC line where it is attached to the oil pan and remove the the bolt attaching it to the block, you can move the AC line out of the way and attack the bottom bolt via a socket on an extension ( about 6 inches) and a ratchet from under the car and towards the rear of the engine. Done this many a time. In a Mercedes it is usually better to remove the things in your way than to try and go around them.
Alternator, I know that some don't like the idea of a rebuilt from Oreallys ($50-60) But its cheaper than a new Bosch and has a lifetime guarantee. And once you figure out how to R+R an alternator quickly, if you have to replace it is should go quickly.
