I had a 1970 2002 (new) and the friend I sold it to had a 1973 2002 Tii (new). They were fun but somewhat fragile cars. The pre-73 cars had Porsche design synchros and the 2nd gear synchro was always weak. The '73 cars shifted to a different design and were more hardy but notchier. We never had rust problems but both cars were in California. The body was weak around the w/w shafts and would crack over time. A/C was aftermarket and pretty lousy. Engine overheating was an issue and if overheated the heads tended to crack. The big bumper cars weren't worth owning - too many issues as they added emission controls, jacked up the front end for bumper height rules. etc.
