Well considering the average MB these have gone into is 20 years old with 175,000 to 250,000 miles on their injectors any new nozzle is bound to be an improvement even if not the correct ones.
My thought is how many of these people have had these in for any real length of time like 50,000 to 100,000 miles or can remember or know how the car engine drove when new?
Also how many people when they replaced the nozzles, replaced the springs and then had them pop tested and checked by qualified injector shop? I have talked to two other injector shops about injectors for these cars as far as spray pattern required by MB & Bosch for these cars and they all say a cone shaped spray is required for optimal combustion, not a solid stream or a wide spray such as found in a direct injection diesel. My guess is these will work great in a VW TDI and I did have a set in my '00 NB TDI that worked great but would really suck the fuel down when given heavy throttle, but I think in my old MB IDI it will not serve me well compaired to correct injectors designed for the old MB & the IDI engine.
These shops also say that no Bosch injectors are being made in Germany and are coming from Bosch plants in either Italy or India. These people report that the failure rate of these nozzles is not all that bad and are found to be not much different then when they were German made.
Now the good news is that two of my injectors cleaned up fine, have no real wear and tested excellent like they were new. The shop is ordering 5 new nozzles and they will be either Italian or India Bosch and he will test them all for spray pattern and quality. He stated it is not unusual to send a bad unit back to Bosch.
The shop owner of Bootheel Diesel Injection Service seems to really know his diesel fuel systems and from what I can tell is trying to help me and not just get my money and push me out the door.
I will keep all posted as to outcome of this effort.
