Not that I wanted to, but I've found a source for endless timing chains for the 617 engine...
I ordered a chain through the local Shucks, due to discounts I have with them, and ended up with a Beck/Arnley #024-0044.
Checking the chain to see what type of master link it came with, I quickly found no link, and no openings in the chain.
Up until this point, I hadn't realized that they were available this way, as even the MB dealers apparently can't source these any more, even though they are mentioned in the FSM for overhauls.
This would be all fine and good, but for the fact that I'm
not over hauling this engine, and needed to roll the chain in from the top!
Well, I just wanted to let others know that a source and part number are available if needed, and warn those who aren't overhauling that that part number won't be much help!
Back to Shucks for a refund, and off to order one from Phil, it looks like!
