As for the filters, you didn't say when you were leaving, but if you have at least a week you could order a pile and have them shipped ahead to the seller. They are pretty touchy about anything weird looking going in carry-on luggage.

That reminds me of a horrible incident I had as we were leaving Paris last spring. I had stupidly tried to dig up parts for my (French!) Citroen DS-19 while we were meandering around on the routes nationals in France. I had won several parts auctions on ebay.fr and my plan was to collect them at the end of the trip from a post office in Paris. Well, almost nothing showed up in time there , except for one set of brake pads that I had promised to carry back for a virtual pal of mine (that he won on ebay.fr) on a Citroen forum. We get to the airport and, to my surprise , the security agent opens the carry on and asks "what's this?". (My wife had not packed hem in the suitcase - not really her fault). I tried to explain en Francais that they were brake pads for their national treasure of a car (plaquettes de frein pour une DS-19) but they were trashed. Eventually a set of the same item got across the pond from one of the sellers by itself, so I sent it to my virtual pal whose stuff I had lost. That little fiasco cost me about $60 - and I have no parts to show for it.
