I have taken my oil filter housing apart just to see what was inside of it.
use a small punch and a hammer and tap the one of the holes, it just
unscrews. lift it out, and behind it is a spring and the oil thermostat that
controls oil flow the the oil cooler. there is a special tool part# 617 589 00 07 00.

The deeper hole is a by pass valve. I removed it with a socket that looks
like a slot screw driver, on an extention to fit down in the hole. there is a
spring and I forget what else.

the broken piece could be swaped from the other filter.

Ihaven`t had a 126 & 123 filter housing side by side, but seems you could
change the plate from ea filter for the oil sender.
