I`ve changed the oil enough times I don`t think about it much any more, the first time was a pita. knocked off some vacuum lines, oh crap now where do these go?
I usually change it hot, crack the lid and let it drain over night. then fish out the drain plug I usually drop in the hot oil. .
I only had trouble with the O ring falling off the lid when I used Wix filters. seemed they were a little larger. used a little grease to hold it on.

And remember it only takes 8 qts of oil, not 16 , that`s a long story.
