I don't like the stainless wheel brows. They look so 80's gaudy. My 380SL had them, and I was afraid to look underneath. The good news was, that there was no all metal and no rust surprise (often, there is NOTHING underneath!). The bad news (although not a problem, I repainted the car) was that the edges had worn away all the clearcoat even with the seals on the edges, leaving what looked like long scratches on all four wheel brows.
