I agree with Pawo......don't try to reboot UNLESS you know precisely when the boot first split open and caught it right away. Dirt in there is a bad thing. The fact that it's making noise - even slight noise, is not a great sign.

I'm not saying it's going to fail tomorrow.....but you're probably throwing money away on the boots.

Buy some gorilla tape or heavy-duty 3M duct tape, squirt some grease in there with a turkey baster and wrap the torn boot up. I did this to my own rear axle 2000 miles ago. I also zip-tied the ends.
