The SEC got a shortblock, no big deal, and no core. So I convincve Mike to pull the crank, rods and pistons from the 560 before scrapping the block. Due to excessive oil consumption mike pulled his heads off his 500 Euro about the same time. It appeared that a couple of cylinders were passing oil past the rings and not the guides so out came the engine with the hope that the 560 reciprocating parts would interchange into his 500 block. Well this wouldn't be much of a post if it didn't. The long stroke crank fits right in using the 560 rods and pistons, giving the same deck height as the other block. He kept the smaller valve 500 heads intending to make a torque monster and not so much a 6k+ RPM screamer. Mike's not a tech geek so there are no pictures of the build. Sorry guys. He drove it into work today for the first time and I got to take it around the block. I can sum it up in 3 words.... gobs of torque. It's available right off idle too. If that wasn't enough for a big grin, at around 3k rpm, it gets a really mean snarl and pulls like mad to the upshift, after which I didn't have enough road ahead to hold it. Now the only thing planned is an exhaust upgrade. The big inch stroker really wants to breathe. Needless to say it's still faster than any 107s we work on in the shop by a good margin even with the restrictive pipes on it.
Nice conversion. Does the 500 really have smaller valves. That would surpise me. I read the 500 Euro had around 240HP as compared to the 560SL version at 227HP. I had assumed the heads were the same.

Faster than any 107. I think it would be a close race but for a US spec 560SL verses Euro Spec 500SL my money would be on the US 560SL for 0-60 or in the 1/4 mile. For absolute top speed I would go with the Euro 500SL.
