My guess is that the engine would not be a real issue, but be sure you support it well underneath. It is amazing how little metal is there in the trunks of our cars. My pal and I cut up a W123 awhile ago and you could pick up the trunk section very easily.

I'm not too sure I would tow that hulk with the 300SD. Seems too heavy to me.
