When you guys from the UK call a Mercedes a 'merc', how do you pronounce it?
Merc as in "merck" or Merc as in "mercenary"
In the U.S., the "merck" pronunciation is our slang for a Mercury, a division of Ford, which you may not have in the U.K.
It really doesn't matter as everyone on this site knows you are referring to a Mercedes. If you call a Mercedes a Merc to any American, he will assume you're talking about a Mercury.
I have an interest in language as I've lived in a foreign country for a while, and have a degree in Linguistics.
For that matter, I wonder what slang they use for Mercedes in Australia or New Zealand.
Fwiw, in Japan, they usually call a Mercedes a "Benz".
