You can refurb and paint yours. I did it and its not difficult at all. You'll see varying degrees of sand paper grit, paint remover, some fiberglass body filler, matching paint (try paintscratch.com---they did a great job matching mine in a rattle can), and clear coat. Even though it may cost me a sale, I do have to agree with you. Refurbishing them may be the easiest way to go.
Whenever I install Euro lights in a Benz, I buy the unfinished panels and either paint them myself or take them to the local Maaco guys. They do a great (and inexpensive) job.
