Both references are for (in effect) a Federal engine. California is slightly different as regards the position of the turbo and hence the drain but it should be close enough. I like the idea of putting a clamp around the tube as a leverage point. I had a hard time getting the lower tube into the grommet without pushing the grommet into the oil pan but I eventually got it.
